Waynesboro, Va., and Columbia, S.C., Jan. 17, 2019 – Earlier this week, Lumos Networks and Spirit Communications announced they would rebrand as Segra. Today, Segra, one of the largest independent fiber bandwidth companies in the U.S., announced that PGA Tour player Scott Piercy and PGA Tour Champions Player Rocco Mediate will serve as brand ambassadors for the 2019 season. Both Piercy and Mediate will wear the Segra logo at Tour events this season, including this weeken’s PGA Tour event, the Desert Classic at the PGA West Stadium Course in La Quinta, California.
Since April of 2018 Lumos Networks and Spirit Communications have integrated operations, have expanded their fiber-optic network and product sets, and have made further investments in existing and new markets across nine states in the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast. Notable new markets include Raleigh, Greensboro, and Fayetteville, North Carolina.Â
“We’re excited and proud to have Scott and Rocco serve as brand ambassadors and members of the Segra team,” said CEO Timothy G. Biltz. “Segra is a verb meaning to win, as in to prevail or overcome. Scott and Rocco certainly know how to win. Their work ethic, determination and perseverance are qualities shared by our team, and are consistent with the core values of Segra,” he added.  Â
Since turning pro in 2001 after graduation from San Diego State University, Scott Piercy has enjoyed great success on the PGA Tour. Last year Scott earned his fourth PGA Tour win at the 2018 Zurich Classic and doesn’t look to slow down anytime soon already notching 3 top 10s in his first 7 starts of 2019.
“I’m excited to partner with Segra,” said Piercy. “Over the last few years as a Lumos Networks brand ambassador, I’ve seen just how focused they are on their customers and building a world-class fiber network. I got to spend some time with them and the Spirit Communications team just after my victory at the Zurich Classic last season. It was amazing to see how similar the two companies were in terms of culture and focus on winning,” said Piercy. “When you look at all these two companies have accomplished in the last year including their success in existing and expansion markets in the Southeast and ongoing success in Hampton Roads and other markets in the Mid-Atlantic, it’s easy to see why theyâre a leader in their industry. Itâs exciting to have that focus and support with me this season,” he added.
Born in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, just a few miles from Arnold Palmer’s home in nearby Latrobe, Rocco Mediate attended Florida Southern College, where he led the golf team to a National Championship. Since turning Pro in 1985, Rocco’s recorded 10 tournament wins, including 6 on the PGA TOUR, and represented the US in the 2003 UBS Cup. Â Since joining the PGA TOUR Champions in 2013, his most memorable moment of his 3 victories is winning the 2016 the Senior PGA Championship. He is perhaps most famous for his epic battle and playoff against Tiger Woods in the 2008 US Open, one of the most talked about US Open Championships to this day. During the 2018 season, he tallied seven top-10s, tying for his most in a season (2013). His four-consecutive top-10s in February-March tied the longest streak of his career.
“It’s fitting that Lumos Networks and Spirit Communications arrived at Segra as their new brand given their focus on winning and providing winning solutions for their customers,” said Mediate. “Having a partner that is committed to your needs and your goals is important for any business. Segra’s culture and customer-first focus is a driving force in its success and its customers’ success. Itâs great to have that passion and support fueling me this season,” said Mediate.
Customers will begin to see the Segra logo on company vehicles, buildings, and other materials over the next few months. Customer service, rates and network coverage will not change as a result of this re-branding process. “While our name and look will change, our guiding principles of doing business – most importantly putting the customer first – will remain the same. We are pleased to have Scott and Rocco helping us to tell our story, and we look forward to seeing them shine on their tours this season,” said Biltz.
